Sunday, August 30th, 2009I am on Design Chat tomorrow
Tuesday, August 18th, 2009Additionally… though I suppose it is unlikely anyone will check this in time, I am doing a video-chat-call-in show called “Design Chat” tomorrow at 8 PM. The topic is design and based on the other ones, a bit about advertising/marketing/social media. (It’s a “call-in” but you do it with twitter.) Basically, it’s a high-tech pillory where you tweet questions at my head instead of rotten potatoes.
I encourage ringers to “tweet in” with softball questions like “How is it someone as beautiful and talented as you can be so amazing constantly?” or “Now that you’ve tamed the internet-avatar-making world, can any man tame your restless heart?”
Watch for tweets about upcoming shows from @hupajoob and @designchat. We’re trying a new format using Mashable.com’s Chat Lounge. Anyone can watch but you will need a Twitter account to participate and log in to the chat. The new time slot is 8pm on Wednesdays.
Before and after the chat you can follow the discussion at twitterfall.com/#designchat
Submit questions or topics for the special guest to @designchat.
My interview on AMCTV.com
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009I’m mainly putting this here for my parents
Read an interview with me where all my libelous statements, pointless tangents and attempts to be humorous have been edited for space. Making me seem quite dull, but less hate-filled than usual.
My interviewer talked to be on the phone last week and, god bless her, had to transcribe the whole thing and then get it down to 140 words. Unfortunately, I am not a succinct, focused speaker (nor have I what would be called a “pleasing” or “articulate” way of speaking) so a lot of things didn’t make the cut.
Things cut from the interview:

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009FRIENDS PROJECT
This is my friend Ashley Ward. We had brunch 2 weeks ago, after a couple months of planning. (She is very busy often.) We tried to go to Shopsin’s (as seen in the movie "I Like Killing Flies") but it was too crowded so we went to Supper instead.
She is very Southern. She had a great grandpappy named Zelma and pronounces "father" as "deddy." We went to Tea & Sympathy (a British tea shop here in NY) at 11 AM and she ordered a coca-cola. Her high school was the site of a syphilis outbreak AND a redneck vs. vampires showdown.
You can enjoy her star turn in Disco Janitor
Candy-Colored Avedon Hang-Out Chronicle #3-4
Friday, May 1st, 2009FRIENDS PROJECT

These might be the only non-comedy scene people I know.
Last Saturday we took a trip to the Bohemian Beer Garden in Queens. Since I’ve known James he’s lived in NY, Chapel Hill, LA and Paris. The economic downturn repatriated him to his father’s house in Pelham a year ago and this is the first time we’ve managed to hang out since then, so we double-dipped and hung out again on Monday.
They were entertaining a guest from France so we went to the Rainbow Room at the top of 30 Rock, then back to the East Village for yakiniku and bizarre-amazing cocktails at Angel’s Share.
James is the creative engine, lead singer and sole constant of America’s favorite band, The Kung Fu Monkeys (previously drawn here). He is a snappy dresser.
Mufridah works as a teacher. Anytime I write anything about her school, I have to take it down later in case a parent googles her name. The story that used to be here is no exception. She is holding Angel’s Share’s "Quintessence," NY’s finest cucumber-based libation.

A Child’s Treasury of Beau Brummelism
Thursday, April 23rd, 2009I actually did this a while ago, but I ran it by people to make sure it wouldn’t be considered "creepy" or "pedo" to draw Matt Weiner’s son. But now he’s a media darling and public person, so all’s fair.
If you haven’t been following the Arlo publicity blitz, here’s for starters:
Candy-Colored Avedon Hang-Out Chronicle #2
Monday, April 20th, 2009Silvija and I shared a train to DC on 4/10/09. We saw "reasons to be pretty" and "Exit the King" on Broadway the week prior. She was not wearing this outfit any of those times.
All people who are known for being good at one thing should have another secret thing that has nothing to do with it that they are also good at. Silvija is a Latvian Folk Dancer.
I’ve covered all of April. Now I have to wait and hangout with someone else before I can do another one.

Sunday, April 19th, 2009My offer of free paint does not seem to have set the internet ablaze, so I’ll post something else:
I will draw a portrait everyone I hang out. Open ended, but I really don’t hang out with that many people, so this may crap out quickly.
(I also want to draw something besides suits, to be honest.)
Mitch and I had a drink on 4/14/09 at the tile bar on 1st Ave.
We ran out of money. He holds his beer like this for real.
Some guy recognized him as ‘Mister Glasses’ there.
The Criterion Process
Friday, February 27th, 2009Eric Skillman is the art director of many a Criterion DVD package. He has a blog where he talks about the process of designing the covers (and insides) of those releases. Interesting!

Saturday, February 14th, 2009Valentine Gifts for All Comers
Friday, February 6th, 2009Guess what? It’s almost St. Valentine’s Day, the most holy day of the liturgical calendar!

If you have a special lady friend, and don’t know what to get her to manifest in material form your swirling and ill-defined emotions for her, why not get her THIS!
If you don’t have a special lady friend and keep striking out on your internet blind dates. Like things are going really well, and you’ve been emailing for three weeks and think you’ve finally found someone you’re on the same wavelength with so you decide to pony-up and meet in person for the first time. You meet at some dive bar and you decide to get a bite to eat and then back for more drinks until it’s getting pretty late and she needs to go back to Brooklyn because the L’s gonna be all fucked up so you invite her to your place, but she says no, she really ought to get going and then she won’t respond to your follow up email the next day even though she expressly said “We should do it again sometime”... you probably need to fix up your place anyway. So get something nice to hang on your wall, like THIS!
Or maybe you’re a weird fat dude with a beard and no chin who just likes to wank to cartoons of hot chicks… THIS!
